I have had the privilege of serving as Lead Pastor since September 2002. I love the people of this church and our heart for each other, our community and the world. It’s exciting to see God at work in lives each day extending our dynamic worship life into our day-to-day work, community and home lives.
At home I live with my lovely wife, Joan. We were married in 1977, in her home church in Dallas, Wisconsin. I grew up in rural Ellsworth, Iowa with three brothers and our parents on a farm where we raised corn, soybeans, oats, alfalfa, sheep, turkeys and hogs. I attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, receiving a BA in Accounting. My first career was as a C.P.A. in Minneapolis. During that time Joan and I met in Minneapolis at church where we both served in the Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a first grade teacher. Then I attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, graduating in 1980. We have four grown children—three of whom live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and one in Madison, Wisconsin. We have five of the cutest and most charming grandchildren you will ever meet.
Pastoral ministry service has included a two point parish in Dwight and Mooreton, North Dakota 1980-1987; Our Savior’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jackson, Minnesota 1987-2002; and now at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. I am excited to see what the future will bring in these interesting and challenging times.
Besides service in the church, I occasionally like to get outside on my bike, or on the lake in my kayak, do home repairs, sing, strum the guitar a little and spend time with my wife and family. Did I mention that I’m a grandpa?
My favorite Bible verse is II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; the new has come!” I love this verse because I personally experienced the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in my life when I surrendered my heart and life to Christ as a young man. I have found Jesus to be faithful to His promises in the assurance of salvation for today and eternity.
Welcome to First Lutheran Church where we can grow together in love and service For the Love of Christ.
