We made it home! Friday was a long day of travel. We got up early, packed our stuff, and helped clean up the church. Then we headed for home. The van ride home was good. Everyone was exhausted from our full week of service. Most of the youth slept in the vans. Thank you for all of your prayers over the last week. We really appreciate everything the First Lutheran congregation has done for us. We look forward to sharing our experience with everyone. We will present a short video in both services on Sunday July 24th.
Today’s devotional was around the response to God’s love: GOD FIRST LOVED YOU, SO WORSHIP GOD. Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. We talked about unique ways you can worship God. Worship can look different for different people at different times, but this is the general definition:
Worship: to honor with extravagant love and extreme submission
Today at the Y was another busy day. The kids were happy to see us back and anxious to interact. We all have learned the “Fire circle” they do every morning and have fun dancing with all of the kids at 10:00 AM. Everyone got to go swimming, a favorite of the kids at the Y and of […]
It’s been a really busy last few days…. So busy we didn’t have time to update the blog. Today we finally had a little free time so here is a run-down of the last couple of days:
We had a fantastic day today. The church service was great, we were witness to recognition of two Pastors 50th anniversary of ordination. After church we headed to the Reds game. It was a hot one, and again we saw a historic event. Pete Rose’s jersey was retired – and the Red’s won! After the game we treated ourselves to a much needed ice cream treat and then to the church to get settled for the week ahead. We are […]
We arrived in Cincinnati at Prince of Peace church around 9:00 PM safe and sound. We had a very safe journey with minor traffic delays. We are grateful for our safe journey and look forward to a restful night sleep to join the congregation here for 8:45 service. Following worship we will be heading to the Reds baseball game. We look forward to a fun day and then will be checking in to YouthWorks for our week to follow. We will be serving this week through YouthWorks in Christ-centered missions here in Cincinnati. We will try blog at the end of each day to update on our experiences.
Saturday. The day we head to Cincinnati. We will be spending the majority of our day in the vans. It’s not the most enjoyable having to spend the day in a vehicle but we are thankful we can make it to our destination in one day. This will give us the opportunity to spend Sunday doing some fun activities around the city. As we travel please pray for: our drivers – that they will be alert and attentive(as it will be a long day of driving), our youth – that they will be patient travelers, and the drivers we encounter on the road – that they travel safe. Thank you for your support. We look forward to having a good week!
Boy was it hard to get up this morning. Our crew was definitely sleepy and almost all were sound asleep when our wake up knock came this morning. I think only Jordan and Joee made it to breakfast this morning 🙂
The title of our morning session was “We Are Brave.” The speaker explained how God’s unconditional love helps us be brave. We have three incredible gifts, We have existence, We have opportunity, and We are loved. We lose our fear when we embrace God’s unconditional love. In small groups, our youth talked about who they feel is demonstrates bravery in the face of adversity. They also talked about what it means to be loved by God.
The rain put a damper on our afternoon. Only a […]
Whew, we were glad that we got a late breakfast time this morning. There are 3 shifts of meal times to accommodate the large number of people at the camp. We dine al fresco under an open air pavilion with the ocean breezes blowing.
After breakfast it was time for a large group session. Our “blue group” was assigned to enter up front today. We are able to get an up close view of the stage. The speaker this morning talked about the theme of “We Are For.” He talked about the brand of Christianity and what it is known for in our society at large, mostly what we are against. He mentioned that we should work to be known for what “We Are For” as […]
We made it!!!
As you can see the look of excitement was almost too much to contain. The ocean was a beautiful site after so many hours in the car. We agreed that it was worth the drive.
We headed out from Prattville, AL and made our way through the rest of Alabama. We encountered some rain but made it safely to Panama City Beach. We checked in with the staff and then the youth headed down to the beach. A bit windy but the sun, sand, and water felt great!
We found out that there are 1,550 people registered for the camp this […]
Greetings from the steamy south. We were greeted with lots of humidity yesterday during our arrival to Nashville. Ground fog/mist was building up on our windshield as we drove into the conference center we stayed at last night. Luckily all rooms came equipped with air conditioning which was utilized by all parties!
In the morning, we had breakfast and packed up for our day. We headed to the Belle Meade Plantation. The Plantation during its heyday did not have the usual cash crops found on a plantation. It was well known for horse breeding. In fact, many of today’s winning horses can trace their lineage back to one horse at the Belle Meade Plantation. Even the Triple Crown winning American Pharoah. We toured the mansion with […]
And we are off…
The youth did a great job of packing and everything fit with room to spare! That just means more room for souvenirs from the journey. The crew includes 16 youth and 4 adults. We hope you get to meet all of us through our posts and pictures.
Our day began early at 6:00, loading the vans and saying a prayer before the journey.
We made good time throughout the day making stops at a rest area in Cedar Rapids, IA, lunch in Hannibal, MO, rest area in Illinois, and supper in Paducah, KY. The youth got a lot of sitting, eating, talking and napping. The frisbee was thrown around a bit at our longer stops. It […]
