DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRIES
The Director of Youth Ministries shall have primary responsibility for planning and coordinating the youth student ministries of the congregation. The Director of Youth Ministries shall endeavor to support all First Lutheran youth in their spiritual, moral, and social development by creating welcoming, safe and consistent relationships and environments that are Biblically and Christ centered and discipleship orientated. The Director of Youth Ministries shall have consultative responsibility in coordination with the education, family and small group ministries of the congregation.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop new ministries with youth and their families (in consultation with the pastoral staff).
2. Initiate & provide leadership for weekly high school youth fellowship, spiritual growth ministry.
3. Initiate & provide leadership for weekly high school Sunday School ministry.
4. Plan & initiate youth, and youth & adult, mission trips.
5. Plan and coordinate retreats, Bible Camp experiences & high adventure Christian youth trips
6. Build relationships with students and their families outside of regular program times through regular visits at the schools during lunch or after school hours, attending sporting events, plays, musical performances, etc.
7. Plan & lead day or overnight trips/activities for tween-age & middle school age youth.
8. Lead the recruiting of volunteers necessary to support First Lutheran youth student ministries.
9. Assist in leadership with youth confirmation ministry, including planning and retreats, Bible Camp participation, and special fellowship & service events.
10. Provide support and work with youth & education commissions.
11. Provide support, planning & leadership for children’s ministries.
12. Give leadership to youth ministries in cooperation with other local churches.
13. Document and evaluate activities on an ongoing basis.
14. Write monthly youth news and coordinate other announcement opportunities including the Sunday Bulletin, Messenger, e-mail, web-site updates and posters
15. Have a regular involvement with education driven youth events (e.g., VBS, CROP Walk, Confirmation Sunday, Bible Camps, Retreat, Christmas Program, etc.)
16. Be an active member of First Lutheran Church and its staff by attending worship consistently and at a variety of service times, participating in weekly staff meetings and monthly Church Council meetings.
17. Participate in activities and events that fall outside of regular responsibilities, as well as activities that include participation from the entire staff as shall from time to time be directed by the Lead Pastor.
18. Such other responsibilities as from time to time would be assigned by the Lead Pastor.
